
200 Seedlings Planted in Tudela to Mark Philippine Arbor Day 2025
Misamis University joined the celebration of Philippine Arbor Day 2025 through a tree-planting and bamboo-planting activity on June 25 in Barangay Sebac, Tudela, Misamis Occidental. The event highlighted the planting of 200 seedlings, comprising 100 Narra (Pterocarpus indicus) and 100 Bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris), as part of the ongoing efforts to promote reforestation and environmental sustainability.
The activity was spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO), Ozamiz City, in collaboration with Misamis University and the Misamis Occidental Volunteers for the Environment – MU Chapter. It was carried out in partnership with the Municipal Government of Tudela, the Barangay Local Government Unit of Sebac, Global Port Terminal – Ozamiz City, the Philippine Ports Authority – Ozamiz City, and the Coast Guard of Misamis Occidental.
Deputy CENRO SEMS Elizabeth G. Gran facilitated the event. It was graced by the presence of Municipal Councilors Hon. Rosito Tampoog and Hon. Marites Mixdon, along with Barangay Captain Vladimer Gamotin of Barangay Sebac.
This initiative is in line with Presidential Proclamations No. 643 and No. 10176, which institutionalize Arbor Day in the Philippines and underscore the significance of environmental protection, reforestation, and biodiversity conservation.
This collaborative effort among various stakeholders exemplifies a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and community-led reforestation. It reflects the growing environmental awareness in the province, in support of the government’s "5Ms: Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon, ug Malipayon. The initiative also aligns with Misamis University’s dedication to environmental sustainability and its enduring commitment to social responsibility.
